Our Story

With community as one of our guiding principles,
Reggae Hut is a longstanding staple in
Houston’s Third Ward.

Reinventing a beloved neighborhood eatery.

In 2005, Reggae Hut, a longstanding staple in Houston’s Third Ward community, was acquired and renovated. The Reggae Hut served a tempting amalgamation of Caribbean cuisines for more than nine years before operational challenges almost forced it to close its doors. The restaurant was a considerable inspiration to Davis during The Breakfast Klub’s formative stages. More importantly, Davis’ firm belief in the year-round practice of the fourth guiding principle of Kwanzaa – Ujamaa (cooperative economics) motivated him to
reinvest the financial rewards realized by The Breakfast Klub in the preservation of this cultural icon. With widespread community support, and to the delight of its many loyal patrons, tbk holdings, Inc. unveiled the Reggae Hut Cafe’s new contemporary urban motif featuring mural work by local artist Tierney Malone in January 2006.

We serve the community that supports us in various ways.

We provide jobs to students attending the nearby universities.  We serve as sponsors for community events  (ie. TSU Homecoming, Jerk Fest,
Miles of Giving Foundation).  We partner with local non-profits to support voter registration, local students in-need just to name a few.

Marcus Davis

Chief Steward of Reggae Hut.
Host of Fish, Grits & Politiks.
Entrepreneur, Restaurateur, and Motivational Speaker.

The spirit and entrepreneurial mastermind behind The Breakfast Klub, Reggae Hut, Alley Kat Bar & Lounge, and Kulture, Marcus Davis, is best known for his charismatic personality, authentic customer appreciation, and his tireless commitment to the communities he serves.

Applying “community” as his guiding principle in his business and personal life, he has created one of the most phenomenal restaurant success stories in the country. The concept for
The Breakfast Klub was born after Davis, a native Houstonian, recognized a void in the market     for a unique breakfast restaurant serving signature items in a soulful, relaxed community environment.

Since opening in September of 2001, The Breakfast Klub has become a top tourist attraction, as well as the local favorite breakfast spot, lining up droves of cheerful patrons on a daily basis.

In addition to The Breakfast Klub, Davis has added to his restaurant portfolio Reggae Hut which specializes in Caribbean cuisine, Alley Kat Bar & Lounge, and most recently Kulture, an urban comfort kitchen. As the host of Fish, Grits and Politiks, Marcus Davis dishes a hearty helping of information to feed your mind forever. The show is based on a simple premise; instead of giving a person one fish so they can eat today, you teach them to fish so they can eat for a lifetime.

Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Texas Southern University. He is a highly sought-after motivational speaker. He credits his success to the support of his family. Not surprisingly, he places a special emphasis on spending time with his four “beautiful girls,” wife Mel, mother Betty, and two daughters Lundyn Cymone and Bailey Harrell, and his best boy, son Joshua Raymond.
